Conference Dinner（Sitting style）
Starring: MITSUDOMOE <Waseda University, Official circle of Tsugaru Shamisen>
During the dinner, students from Waseda University will perform Tsugaru Shamisen, a traditional Japanese musical instrument.
Mitsudomoe was founded in 2000 and is "the rockiest Japanese music circle in Waseda.
Many of our members started playing the Tsugaru shamisen at university and enjoy practicing it. We have won the Tsugaru Shamisen World Tournament held every May five times. They also participate in events and concerts to "share the joy of Tsugaru shamisen"! Please enjoy the beautiful sound of Tsugaru shamisen.
【What's Tsugaru Shamisen】
First of all, the shamisen can be classified into three main types according to the thickness of the neck. There are futozao, chuzao and hosozao. The type of music played depends on the thickness of the neck.The Tsugaru shamisen is classified as the futozao type, and is played with a thick, heavy plectrum. The Tsugaru shamisen was originally created as a performing art for male hearing-impaired people called "bosama," and gradually developed into a stage performance. Today, many Tsugaru shamisen players are struggling to find a new style of Tsugaru shamisen, collaborating not only with traditional folk songs, but also with rock and pop music.
