Syunsuke Ikeda received his Dr. of Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1975 in the field of river mechanics. He was employed as research associate at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1971, and moved to Saitama University as associate professor in 1976. He moved again to Tokyo Institute of Technology as professor in 1990. He stayed in the University of Iowa as invited professor in 1989, and also was invited as guest professors at Dalian University of Technology and the University of Minnesota. He was appointed as a member of Science Council of Japan, and served as an executive board member. He also appointed as vice president of the Japan Federation of Engineering Societies, and as executive director of the Japan Academy of Engineering. At present, he is senior advisor for research at CTI Engineering Co., Ltd. His major research area is sediment transport and river morphodynamics, for which he was awarded the Karl Emil Hilgard Prize of the America Society of Civil Engineers and the Best Paper Prize of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers. He contributed continuously to engineer’s ethics, and wrote a book named Ethics for Civil Engineers in 2003. His hobby is philately for more than 65 years, and received Large Gold Medal from the Japan Philatelic Society at JAPEX-2018. He has been the executive director of the APRIN from 2016 to present, and served as the chair of Engineering Subcommittee
