Shunzo Majima, PhD, is Professor of Ethics at the Institute of Liberal Arts, Tokyo Institute of Technology (2020-). Before taking up the current position, Majima worked for Hokkaido University (2008-2017) and Hiroshima University (2017-2020) as an associate professor. Majima worked for several universities as part-time lecturer including Hokkai Gakuen University, Fuji Women’s University, Muroran Institute of Technology, Okayama University, and University of Tokyo. Majima currently serves as a part-time research fellow at the Center for Applied Philosophy and Ethics, Department of Literature, Kyoto University, and the Center for Social Ethics, Nanzan University. After graduating Keio University (LLB) in 1998, Majima was conferred master’ degrees from University of Chicago (MA) in 1999 and Keio University (LLM) in 2000, and a doctoral degree from University of Birmingham in 2012 (PhD). Majima’s research areas cover applied ethics, including research ethics, professional ethics, international/global ethics, and war/military ethics. Majima’s publications include ‘Forgotten Victims of Military Humanitarian Intervention: A Case for the Principle of Reparation?’ in Philosophia (2009), ‘Just Torture?’ in Journal of Military Ethics (2012), and ‘Target: the Japanese Defence Industry --- Ethical Issues Surrounding Military Hardware Manufacturers’ in Revue Roumaine de Philosophie (2018). Majima has extensive experience in teaching various fields of applied ethics, such as bioethics, environmental ethics, war/military ethics, professional ethics, international/global ethics, ethics of science and technology, and engineering ethics.
