Iekuni Ichikawa, after his pediatric residency and fellowship at UCSF and Harvard, he served at Vanderbilt University in 1985-2015, and then at Tokai University, Japan in 1998-2012.
His research focuses on kidney diseases under the grant support by NIH for nearly 30 years, which led to a discovery of new disease entity, “congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract or “CAKUT”, a concept now globally accepted to include a wide spectrum of anomalies found in newborns. His genetic studies ignited his research and teaching interest in the promotion of research integrity.
Ichikawa currently assumes the positions of the Executive Director, the Association for the Promotion of Research Integrity (APRIN), the organization hosting the year 2023 APRI meeting in Tokyo., and the Chair, the Research Ethics Committee, the Japanese Medical Science Federation. Both of these organizations have been founded, governed and supported by researchers. His current title also includes Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Vanderbilt University, and Visiting Professor, Shinshu University School of Medicine.
