Dr. Hiroaki Aihara is Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) and professor at Kavli Institute for Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU). Immediately after he obtained PhD in experimental particle physics from UTokyo he joined School of Science at UTokyo as an assistant professor in 1984 and became full professor in 2003. He had also been a staff scientist from 1988 to 1995 at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in U.S.A. In addition, he has a long career in the university administration. He served as Dean of School of Science from 2012 to 2014, Executive Vice President from 2014 to 2015, and Executive Director and Vice President from 2016 to 2020. He had been a council member of Science Council of Japan 2011 to 2017. He has been a member of the Association for the Promotion of Research Integrity (APRIN) since 2016. He received awards including the 20 th Inoue Science Awards (2004) for discovery of charge-parity symmetry violation in the B meson system, The Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (2016) for contribution to observation in neutrino oscillation and High Energy and Particle Physics Prize of the European Physical Society (2019) for discovery of the top quark.
